About

About Lynde Creek Glass Co.

Lynde Creek Glass Co. keeps two very different kinds of stock on the truck, and downtown Whitby is the reason. Around the four corners at Dundas and Brock there are more than 450 businesses trading out of shallow retail bays, some of them inside the Werden's Plan Heritage Conservation District, where the frontage is single-glazed and sitting at sidewalk level in a frame that has been quietly moving for a century. Ten minutes north in Brooklin — a designated conservation district since 2008, in a village that dates to 1840 — half of Baldwin Street trades out of converted Victorian houses, which means wood stops, putty-glazed sash and pane sizes no supplier holds on a shelf.

Then there is everything the town built after that. Rolling Acres, Taunton North, Williamsburg and Whitby Shores filled in through the 1990s and 2000s, and those sealed units are now reaching the age where they fail in numbers — which is why the fogged-window call is our steadiest residential work and the storefront call is the one that comes in after dark. Both get the same crew. We measure the opening as it sits today rather than trusting a drawing, we match thickness and tint on a heritage block so the new lite does not shout at the bays either side of it, and where the harbour wind has been driving grit and meltwater into a rebate, we deal with the drainage before we set anything new into it.

Why Whitby property owners trust us

  • Heritage bays on Baldwin Street and Werden's Plan matched for thickness and tint, block by block
  • A smashed frontage is boarded and swept before trading hours, not left in plywood for a fortnight
  • Waterfront openings get their drainage and setting blocks checked before new glass goes in
  • Insured and WSIB-covered, with documentation ready for building owners and property managers

Insured & WSIB-covered

We carry full liability insurance and WSIB coverage and hand the certificates over before we start, which is what building owners and property managers ask for. There is no provincial glazing licence in Ontario to produce alongside them, so the thing worth judging us on is the glass: doors, sidelites and low panes leave here tempered or laminated, from downtown Whitby out to Brooklin and Ashburn.
